The bad luck continues

Got a hold of a welder went and rented all the equipment...gOt started and then got called into work so had to call it a day. The welder asked for payment as he promised to return the next day and finish the task. I sat waiting on my front steps most of the day and he never showed. Out my cash, out the equipment rental, out my gas money and still no cage in my car....not to mention what a waste of a day to sit on the front steps and wait aimlessly. Bad things happen to good people over and over and over again! 15 more sleeps till CSCS let's see if I have a motor ready come Monday...my guess knowing my luck is going to be that I don't!

A fish out of water....

So the CSCS opener was great...lots of cars lots of smoke, hope the driver of the Subi that flipped is okay! Definetly know what a washed up whale feels like being out of the water...having to sit on the side lines and watch was not an occasion for celebration. Nv auto's car looked hella fast and hopefully I'll have a running car for the next event...fingers crossed!

Tick tick....

10 hrs to season opener of CSCS no running car and I still can't fall asleep:(

11 weeks...two missed events and still no motor :(

My 2 cents for the day is that if you want your motor built for a event in june...drop it off in January when there is two feet of snow outside...FML!

The frustration continues...

So I guess I should apologize for not posting more frequently but everyday has been more and more frustrating than the last. I missed driving school which I'm still bummed out about bummed about but i guess it's happened to others in the past. Met up with the owner of Canada's fastest Subaru to pick up a rolecage which he gladly donated towards my project. I've test fit a number of times and have actually managed to track down a welder as well that will come to my house and weld it in. Pretty hard to move the car when it doesn't fire up. Motor was dropped off first week of march....10 weeks later new issues keep popping up and its still not together.
Few things that have gotten done since my last post are:
1. back seats are out
2. car is vaccumed and dust and metal shaving free
3. slicks are installed all the way around

5 days till the CSCS pre registration deadline...I hope I get to run!
Lets see what the verdict at the motor shop will be tomorrow morning..keep your fingers crossed!

Thanks to all the followers!

Roll bar where are you?

 Carpet...check!
Seats...check!
Rollbar...doh!

Carpets out, race seat and harness is installed and trying to find a welder who will weld me in a roll bar for next to nothing. Tight on cash as I need to pay for more and tune so it's going to be an interesting week. The countdown to Time attack school has begun and it's 13 more sleeps.

A few pics of the install!

and they said it was a school so I decided to be a good student and get a head start on my readings as well.

Test fit...

So I would like to apologize for the long delay in not writing but its been a rough time with work and family so I'm back into the swing of things starting today!

Did a test fit on the wheels Sunday after work and here is a quick snap shot of what it looks like...

Race seat ... take one!

So today started like any other Sunday...slept in an hour and then got up and got ready for work. The plan all week had been to do a battery relocate but not having a battery made that a little difficult. Out came the seats and the carpet and so did the drill and tape measure. Kirkey seat is on its way in should be mounted and ready to go within the next few days.

Pics to come....

Rules just make for hard work!

A quick look at the two exhaust cutouts that exist underneath the drivers seat of the car.

Now from what I recall CSCS rules state that all exhaust must exist outside of the body line of the car. Time to pay a visit to Parts Source and see if I can come up with some creative side-exit exhaust pipes!

Drivers start your engines...

So work ended at 7 and decided to head out for a little go karting...50 laps later I am defiantly a little sore and fastest recorded lap of the day was a 19.426 which was 3rd fastest of the day...so needless to say stoked on that.

Had an opportunity come up to get some shoes put on for no charge so was glad to take up the offer. Big shout out to Mr. Cook for helping out and keeping the flame alive. Took a quick picture before the wheels got carried out of the basement and can't wait to see them on the car!

The verdict is in...

So the long awaited terrifying moment finally arrived.
Two spun bearings
A mandatory crank replacement
A cam that needs to be fixed or replaced
Spark plugs (meh)
Oil pump is iffy
Hacked up hardware that needs all the threads to be heli-coiled

So all in all not a happy camper and will be posting everything I own for sale in the next few days to come to try generate some cash flow!

A quick breath....

So for those of you who don't know I presently work in the bike industry and its been a long week with alot of setup and tear down as a result of the Toronto International Bike Show. Prior to all the work which began early the morning of the 2nd I got a chance to get my motor out and drop it off at Magnus.

The whole process took about 8 hours including all the breaks I took and a big shout out to Alex B. and Jacob C for stopping by and giving a helping hand. I presently sit waiting for a call to let me know whats wrong with my motor and go from there. May is coming up soon!

A quick agenda of the things to get done within the next two to three weeks include:
1. Sell anything and everything to generate cash flow
2. Create a lip and splitter
3. Clean engine bay
4. Relocate battery
5. Install Kirkey seat and harness.

Please follow along as I aim to create a splitter and lower lip out of nothing. I have a basic idea that I want to try out and adjust accordingly!

I said Brrr it's cold in here...it must be the winter in the atmosphere!

So breakfast was delicious and it wasn't long after that I was bundled up and outside working away. The day was a stubborn start as I had to fight an excessively oversized oil hose till it decided to cooperate but I did pursue and finally won the battle against the stubborn hose. Intake manifold was a breeze and the wiring harness is now completely labeled and out of the way.
End of the day came at around 3pm when the deep freeze suddenly happened and the temperature went from comfortable to frigid. Exhaust manifolds got disconnected from the heads and it now hangs off the hot side turbo pipe. Tranny to motor bolts are all out on the driver side yet need to remove the turbo, exhaust and screamer pipe to get at the bolts on the passenger side.

Back to work first thing in the morning but will try my best to crawl back under tomorrow after work and hopefully drop off the exhaust to make room for the final tranny bolts.

Took a few quick pics of the injectors I pulled out last night.

1260cc injectors....Good thing I work at a bicycle shop...if not my environmental foot print would be far too large!

As always...thanks for reading and be sure to follow!

Thus it begins....

So walked into the garage removed the hood to have a little extra light and this is what lay before me. Having never pulled the motor out of a subaru before and with all the piping and hoses seeming to be extra big and more in the way than ever thus it begins...

I figured started with the messy stuff...so out came came the oil and coolant. Not having a funnel to pour it into a bottle made for an interesting experience. Big shout out to Jake at this point for stopping by and lending a helping hand from here on out.

Out came the rad..didn't really feel like having it get stabbed plus from all the internet kilometers I have gotten in the past few days it makes for alot of wiggle room.

It looks like my intake manifold was put on after the wiring harness was run through it a dozen and a half times so its going to have to come out to prevent me from cutting cables....still a little undecided on what I want to do. Out came the injectors and the fuel line and into bed I went.

Today's goal is to completely separate the wiring harness from the motor disconnect the tranny and see if I can get at the motor mounts without having to take apart the maze of exhaust and manifold piping that lines the underside of the car.

Now to see whats for breakfast...

WISH ME LUCK :)

A day off...

So I took a day off to ship out a few parts and pay a visit to Magnus Motorsports. Didn't stay for long but project motor pull is about to begin in the next two days...Get ready for a massive diy write up!

Sunday, February 13, 2011

phew...

So i made advantage of the plus 3 degree weather to pull my car out of the garage, clean up the garage a little
bit and put it all back in. Big shout out to Alex for swinging by and giving a helping hand with the project. 90 days till Time Attack School:)

Sure don't look like much!

I won...

So today I got an email from CASC informing me about a driver development program coming up in may and June. 750 dollars was the entry amount and I spent all day trying to figure out how I was going to ever afford it. Sitting in front of the Tv watching pinks I get an email. It was from the CASC time attack cordinator informing me that I had been selected from the raffle I entered at the Canadian Motorsport Exhibition.

A day I'll remember forever.

WOW...Its been twenty minutes and I can't close my mouth I have a grin from ear to ear :)

Day 1

Hello world,

So today after having procrastinated for the past few days about where to begin I figured I would take a stab at it. My names Nuwan, I'm 22 years old and I have a dream to race automobiles. Over the last two years the passion has grown more and more. I've read several biographies into the lives of the great drivers who lived before and they all seem to have started out at a very tender age. Self motivated and funded with a day job to support my hobby and passion I start the process of trying to convert my street car into a track car first for lapping days and time attack events and then secondly for road racing it during the 2012 season.

This is what I have to start with! Follow along as it transforms from a road car to a track machine!
